Novels by Gordon Phillips

Call to Love (Still the Beating Heart — Book 1)

Published by JMS Books.

This is my first published novel and the first book in a quartet of novels that grew out of the original story largely due to the richness of the created world and a desire to explore the arcs of different individual characters, their stories and their loves.

The created world is one in which “vampires” are not supernatural, but merely different — a different bio-configuration. Anything approaching the fantastic arises from the idea of the possibilities of mental extrasensory perception.

The second book is Different natures; the third book: The High Castle; and the final book: The Golden Fire.

Separate Natures (Still the Beating Heart — Book 2)

Published by JMS Books.

This is the second part of a quartet of novels about a world in which “vampires” are not supernatural, but merely different.

Together with Call to love (Still the Beating Heart: Book 1) Separate Natures form a complete single story arc, a “bilogy” in fact.

“This is the best writing—by far—I've seen from Gordon Phillips. Brilliant, magnificent, masterful. The story has it all: love, drama, tragedy, heartache, philosophy, physics, wisdom, humor, fantasy, a well-structured, fantastic plot”

Grendel Rising (Earthpower Love — Book 1)

Published by JMS Books.

This is both a stand-alone novel and the first book of a quartet of novels about a world in which, in addition to the Overworld of surface life, including humans, there is an Underworld below the ground, where live trolls.

In Grendel Rising, the troll Grendel comes up to the surface where he meets a human, Ken, who is out walking his dog, Jake. Grendel has come up to find love, but what he has done is illegal and he is subject to capture and incarceration by the Federal Bureau of Geostasis. The challenge of what is essentially “forbidden love” is what Grendel and Ken face.

Their battle, however, sparks a crisis in the relationship between the two “worlds” and even beyond. For below the Underworld is the Deep Realm, where Earthpower in its raw form flows, and Earthpower is the source of love. And above the Overworld is a fourth realm, the Upper Airs. In all the four “kingdoms” the ruling denizens have their own truths, and the commonwealth of all depends on all as well, and the relationship of each to each.

The quartet of Earthpower Love tells of the progress of the crisis that begins with Grendel and Ken, and comes to involve all four of the “kingdoms.” In addition to Book 1: Grendel Rising, is Book 2: Grendel’s Descent, Book 3: The Barrier War, and Book 4: Ancient of Days.
